Researches
Engagements
At the Van Gogh Academy, we uncover and analyse documents and artworks to deepen our understanding of Van Gogh’s environment, times and influences.
Committed to in-situ research, we follow in his footsteps – breathing the same air, seeing the same light and hearing the same sounds – to achieve the highest level of historical and sensory accuracy.

Authenticity
We place particular emphasis on issues of authenticity, striving to correct misinterpretations and dubious theories about Van Gogh’s art and life in our publications.
We are proud to be part of the international research community dedicated to the life and art of Vincent van Gogh, upholding the highest academic standards.

Among them, Michel Rayrole, who oversees social media and logistics, and Laurent Bourcellier, the graphic designer who created our logo and serves as artistic director, play an essential role in developing the Academy’s visual identity and online presence, as does Arnaud Weber, a web designer who has generously and wholeheartedly put his talent to work for our project.

The venue
The Van Gogh Academy also benefits from the invaluable support of Alexandre and Raphaël Fonseca, founders of the Galerie de la Vallée de l’Oise in Auvers-sur-Oise. By sharing their magnificent premises, they offer the Academy an exceptional setting where it can flourish and develop, fully immersed in the landscapes that inspired Van Gogh.
The collection
Our documentary collection comprises authentic and rare artworks, writings, and documents related to Vincent van Gogh’s life and work, including his relationships, influences, inspirations, and health. We strive to make these sources available to everyone who’s interested through an ongoing digitization campaign.
